- No fewer than four persons were burnt to death after an accident involving a truck and a bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the Toyota bus, with license plate LND 991 XN had burst into flames when it was rammed into by the IVECO Truck, injuring about 12 other passengers.
It is understood that both the bus and the truck, with license plate NSR 213ZD, were heading to Lagos when the accident happened around Mowe in Ogun State, causing a massive traffic gridlock on both sides of the road.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Clement Oladele, told NAN that all the injured persons have been taken to the Redeemed Christian Church of God Hospital.
He further advised motorists to use alternate routes out of and into Lagos as the FRSC personnel and other traffic and emergency agencies succeed in untangling the gridlock.
So far, travellers leaving Lagos have been advised to use Ikorodu or Sango Ota routes, while those coming into Lagos have been advised to avoid Mowe.
The Lagos-Ibadan expressway continues to be a death-trap for heavy vehicles as government awaits private funds for its rehabilitation.
